Cranford Inn Clarens is situated in the beautiful village of Clarens in the Eastern Free State, sandwiched between the Rooiberge and the majestic Maluti Mountains. Only 300km from Gauteng, less than 4 hours drive from Durban and approx 2.5 hours drive from Bloemfontein, the Inn is very centrally situated and is an ideal holiday as well as a conference venue We are an perfect venue for both the business traveller as well as for holidaymakers. Need a break from the rat race or are you looking for a stop over while exploring the country side? We are en route to and from the Cape Province from just about everywhere in South Africa. Our hotel caters especially for the local market who are looking for realistic prices, genuine hospitality and comfortable accommodation. We are flexible and approachable, proven by the number of locals who use us on a regular basis.

Our restaurant caters for all tastes and we can prepare any menu from cocktail snacks to 6 course banquets. Our kitchen is renound for the innovative ideas that we create to surprise your taste buds. To classical dishes and old favourites our chefs introduce innovative touches that make our starters really special - a foretaste of what you can expect from the rest of our menu. Only the freshest ingredients are selected by our chefs in the never ending process of ensuring that absolutely the best is served for you appreciation. No meal is complete with out trying the decadent selection of desserts. We make no excuses - we only use pure cream, real butter and lots of sugar. Not for the faint of heart or the weight conscious!

We have 24 splendid rooms, all en-suite (including 6 Family Rooms that sleep 4). Each room has a TV, fridge and a private patio, heaters, fans, bedside clock radios & hot water-bottles. Full tea & coffee facilities are standard in each room. All rooms have recently been upgraded & refurbished into 3 star hotel rooms. We can sleep up to 55 guests.

A full program can be planned as there are many activities that are within walking distance of the Inn. Clarens is home to many artists as well as over 18 galleries and fine curio shops. We have access to a number of Adventure venues in the area: from rope & high wire obstacle courses used to prepare the Camel Team participants to down-to-earth games courses We also have a number of hiking trails that can be included in your holiday as well as White Water Rafting, 4X4 trails, Quad Bike Trails, Clay pigeon Shooting, Archery,Horse riding, Trout fishing for Yellow fish, Rainbow & Brown Trout on dam as well as river and various sports activities that are nearby. In short we specialise in tailoring a holiday to suit your needs, in your time at a price that makes cents!

  • Buy traditional Basotho Blankets at Di Mezza & De Jager, on Sias Oosthuizen Street.

  • Browse the art and craft shops in the Clarens Meander Centre. Here is a scale model of the Highlands Water project, showing how the water is transferred from Lesotho to South Africa. An engineering marvel of note!

  • Golden Gate Highlands National park for walking and game & bird viewing - beautiful sandstone scenery.
